PDS Promotes Science at Local Elementary School

PDS is bringing excitement to learning science by teaching kids how to light a lightbulb with their own bodies, make batteries with groceries, construct their own magnet, learn magic tricks, create their own rainbows, and shoot their own rockets at a local Prince William County elementary school.

Dr. Mark Roden, Ph.D., has been engaging students at Henderson Elementary’s after school Science Club twice a week with hands on experiments to explore subjects in the realm of chemistry and physics. “Less hands on science is performed by kids in school these days. This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community in a rewarding way,” says PDS President, Greg Gillette. Originally the Science Club was slotted for just one afternoon a week, but demand for it was so high that PDS opted to sponsor the Club twice a week to double the number of students that could participate.

The after school activities are organized by the school’s PTCO and its different clubs are headed by volunteer parents. Progressive Data Systems has sponsored the volunteer run after school club to promote science and technology for children in grades 3 to 5. At the club’s final session, parents are invited to join their children for rocket launchings.
